Took a 6 hour flight from Singapore to Korea airport (Incheon). We boarded the plane at around 12:45am. The plane took off at around 1.30am. Tried hard to make myself sleep, but couldn't really as it wasn't exactly confortable sleeping on a chair.
Day 2 (Mon)
Managed to doze a bit and woke up at around 5am..Singapore time. I have no idea which part of the world I am at, but when I opened the window, I could see the sun shinning brightly. The air stewardess served us breakfast short after that. It was stewed chicken with rice, accompanied with salad and fruits.
When reached the airport 830am (korea time). Korea's timing is 1 hour faster then ours. As soon as we left the airport, we were greeted by our local tour guide, Ellen. The brought as to the city to do a little shopping as we were still early for our flight to Jeju island. We went to Ewha Women's University Street to shop. Ewha Women's University is located there. We saw a lot of ladies going to school as we were shopping there. Noticed that they really dress up nicely, with make up, pretty clothes and heels. A far cry from what we see in NUS :p.
After that, we went to the domestic airport (Gimpo) for our flight to Jeju island. The journey is around 1 hour. On the way there, we experienced very bad air turbulance. Everyone had to be sitted throughout the journey. I could feel the plane moving up and down and up and down. The feeling wasn't exactly good. It was such a relief when we finally touched down.
We got on the tour bus and went for lunch after that. Lunch was steamboat.
Realised that throughout the whole trip, meals will always include the same few side dish, namely Kimchi, seaweed, 海带,beansprouts, ikan bilis, boiled green vegetables and beancurd skin. They are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Dragon Head Rock
We went to see the rock that looked like a dragon head after that. The wind there is realy strong and it got cold at night. Dinner was steamboat again.
After dinner, our sg guide brought us to a nearby Emart (supermarket) to buy things.
After that, bathe and sleep...
Day 3 (Tue)
We had abalone porriage for breakfast. And the restaurant owner was so cute. He specially prepared 2 toasts, 1 sunny side up and some jam for us as he was afraind that we couldn't get used to this type of breakfast. How thoughtful of him...hehe
We went to quite a few places on this day. We went to the teddy bear museum, lotte world (themepark)....
Nam Sangol Hanok Village
Visited one of the filming sites of Da Chang Jin. That place had people living there...so certain pases were out of bound. When we visited that place, the tour guide told us to stamp our feets all at once on the ground. We could all feel the hollowness. Seems that that land was built on volcanic ash...that's why the hollowness...
Mt Sorak
After that we went to Mt Sorak. It was pretty cold and windy there as the area was surrounded by the sea. There were steps for people to climb so that you can really reach quite some distance up the mountain...that is if you can prsevere ;)
The scenery there is also very nice.
For a while, I thought it would be pretty romantic to climb the mountain (or rather the steps) with a loved one (cos of the beatiful scenery and the coldness) :)
I wore my slippers and went out of the hotel, and my toes were freezing when I came back...
Day 4 (Wed)
Went to Gimpo airport and took a flight back to Incheon.
The first place that we went to was to the Kimchi School to learn how to make our own Kimchi.
We could bring the Kimchi that we made back to Singapore. Dad had some and said that it was "not bad". I couldn't bear the smell so I didn't eat...and after having ate this "thing" for so many days, I don't think I will ever eat it again...haha
We got a chance to wear the tradition Korean dress (hanbok) as well. Thought the guys look good in the traditional clothes. They looked more authoritative.
Stayed in Sheraton Walker hotel that night. There is a casino there. Our tour guide brought us in and some of them played for a while. They all played 大小. Most of them won some money, if not break even.
Day 5 (Thurs)
Yong Pyong
In the evening, we headed towards Yong Pyong. It was really cold. When we reached the hotel, the temperature was only 11 degree celsius...at night it dropped to 2 degree celsius! Phew..that was cooold
Day 6 (Fri)
Had the hotel buffet for breakfast in the moorning...a change from our usual Korean style breakfast.
Yong Pyong is a skiing resort. As it was spring when we went, there wasn't any people skiing.
Nonetheless, we took a cable car and went up to the top of the hill. We saw the skiing routes from high up. Atop the hill is a very different scenery. The scenery there is that of the mother natual. Very beautiful....and it was very very cold up there...
In the evening, we checked into a resort. It's like a traditional house. They is a living room, kitchen with stove and bedroom in the room. As it is a traditional house, we had to sleep on the floor. They called that "kang", as it will heat up as soon as the temperature gets lower at night. This is to keep people warm when they sleep on the floor.
The only "mattress" that was available was just about the thickness of two comforters...luckily there were a few mattresses available. We each had two layers of it on the floor.
After cheking in, we went to Waterpia to enjoy the hotspring. The hotspring is indoors. It was quite confortable as the pool had jacuzzi-like jets with water coming out There is an outdoor swimming pool as well...I had wanted to test out how cold the water is there...but as soon as I stepped outdoors, it was soooo cold that I ran indoors immediately after that....
After we got back to the resort, we were all amazed that as soon as we stepped into our rooms, we could feel that the floor is warm.
The next morning, everyone complained of backache :x
Day 7 (Sat)
Nami Island
Went to Nami Island. It's an island and we need to take a short boat ride there. There were a lot of people there as it was a Saturday. Many of the locals went there for picnics. It's a beautiful island with lots of greenery. That is one of the filming location of Winter Sonata.
We met with a bad traffic jam that day...the bus was crrrrrawling.
I could see a lot of expressways along the way, long long ones...but I don't understand why the traffic jam is still so bad..is it because many people there own cars?
The wind was blowing strongly as soon as we alighted from the bus. It was very cold...everyone was running into the hotel...and the good thing is the hotel's lobby was rather small. So we all squeezed ourselves in and managed to get some warmth...a blessing in disguised? hehe
Hotel that night was the best. We had a plamsa tv, vending machine, remote controlled toilet, suana, rain bath and internet access in the room...cool~
Some people suggested going to the nearby area for shopping...we didn't go cos the weather was really really cold...I rather stay in the room for a suana session...hehe
Day 8 (Sun)
Had chinese style breakfast in the morning. This is one breakfast all of us found most appetizing!
The tour guide brought us shopping...after that we headed for the airport for a flight home~
