Well..here is a long and backdated post.
Day 1
Reached the airport at 11:30am. The local guide helped us check in out luggages and we are off to DFS to shop. The plane departed was suppose to depart at 1:30pm. The But somehow the flight was delayed. We reached TaoYuan at around 5pm. When we were there, out taiwanese guide greeted us. As we reached Taiwan later then excepted, the guide arranged for us to visit a night market at TaoYuan. We made our way there and had our dinner along the way.
Day 2
We had to wake up quite early in the mornings during the trip...like 5 or 6 am...never 7am. Had to set handphone alarm to wake me up. After breakfast, our first stop was Miramar shopping mall. There is a huge ferries wheel there. Opposite Miramar is Carrefour. I went there to buy some cereal for a friend. In there supermarket, my mum saw something which she misses a real lot when she was at Taiwan 30 years back. It's honey roasted sweet potato. It's actaully sweet potato coated with honey and roasted slightly. This is something that cannot be found in Singapore. We bought some and ate them along the way. In fact we regretted not buying a bit more to bring home...
After that we made our way to 故宫. It's a museum storing artifacts of the past. It's kind of interesting how or what those things were used or used for in the past. We went on the Jiang Jie Shi's old madam's residence for a visit. It's more like a park to me. There was even a couple there taking photo shots. According to the guide, many couples come to this place for photo shots as the place has nice sceneries. We went to 淡水, 渔人码头 and 情人桥 after that. 情人桥 has a nice architecture. We went to the hot spring after that. The water they say, it's sulpher water. It's suppose to be good for the skin after soking in it. After a good soke, we went to Shilin Night Market. There were lots of people, lots of food and lots of things to buy.
Day 3
We went to the tomato farm in the morning. According to the guide, we were suppose to see lots of red, ripe tomatoes. Unfortunately, they have been harvested before we come. So all that we see were small, green, unriped tomatoes. There were many varieties though. Never knew that so many varieties exists. The guide brought us to see a dam. Nothing special...except that the scenery on the other side of the dam has the nice and peaceful feel. Green mountains, peaceful waters...
We went to a place called Tony House for lunch. Feels like it's an isolated building in the middle of nowhere. The restaurant is surrounded with glass windows, so that we can enjoy the scenery as we dine. Nice scenery. The place is not a bad place except that probably the aircon is not turned on strong enough. We could feel the greenhouse effect as we dine in there.
We headed to 剑湖山 at 高雄. Along the way, we stopped by the coffee factory at 古坑 to hear about the history of coffee, drink some coffee (really need some especially when you had to wake up so early in the mornings), and buy some coffee products.
The gala dinner was to be held on that evening. It's 中秋节that day. We had games, lots of food and eat had a mini mooncake. The pomelo there looks different from the ones that we can find in Singapore. The size is slightly smaller and elongated. The flesh inside is finer as compared to the ones that we buy locally. After dinner, we went to put the 天灯. All of us wrote our wishes on the 天灯 before we light it up and set it up to the sky. Our team's 天灯 shone the brightest and flew the furthest among all the 天灯 that were set up to the sky. The guide say that this is a good sign, as it means that all the wishes written on it will come true...:)
After that we walked up to 剑湖山 to see fireworks. Simple ones. As we were waiting for the fireworks, we heard many burst of fireworks comeing from else where. Then we were told that Taiwanese have the habit of putting fireworks their at homes during festivals, hence the sounds.
Day 4
We spent our morning at 剑湖山 theme park. I tried out some of the rides over there. I have to admit that this is the first time that I am trying out these types of rides, as I seriously do not have the courage to try out rides like these. I tried the 90 degrees drop ride and the space shot. After that, I think I can't hold the camera properly...:P
After lunch, we went to 春秋格. We visited the temple there and surrounding sculptures. Then the guide brought us to the pearl centre to buy pearls.
At night, we went to Dream Mall. Dream Mall has a huge Hello Kitty ferries wheel. It's the largest in Taiwan so far.
Day 5
Went to 花莲 on this day, the journey there was super long. Think we spent around 5-6 hours travelling there. 花莲 is a quiet place. I hardly saw any people or vehicles on the roads. The guide told us that many young people in 花莲 had left for the towns for better jobs. 花莲 is one of the largest provinces in Taiwan. This province is famous for their marble hills. We were told that the pavements in 花莲 are all made of marble not stones! We went up the winding road up the hills to take some pictures. Think we were about half way up the hill. We could not go any further as it had been raining for the past few days and it seems that further up, some rocks had tumbled down. The road up was sealed and no one was allowed to go any further. The guide told us that on one side of the hills, it's another province, and on the other, it's the Pacific Ocean. This journey took us the whole day. We had dinner and went back to the hotel after that.
Day 6
We went to see the Toroko Gorge that day. It's a place of hills, water, marbles, stones. We had our lunch and we took a train from 花莲 back to Taipei. The ride was comfortable and fast. We took this opportunity to try the 火车便当. It's quite sumptuous considering that it's a train meal. There is a big piece of meat, an egg, vegetables and many other stuff.
We went to 九份 after we reached taipei. There were many food stuffs to buy there. The guide told us that 九份 is famous for making clogs. One can actually choose the material/design of the top of the clogs and get them to make a pair for you. Dinner was at Five cent drift wood restaurant. This restaurant has a very special exteral. It stands out from the surounding buildings. The food there is fabulous! They had this self made milk mua chee. It's very nice, but unfortunately, they do not sell this mua chee. A meal there is not cheap though.
After that, we went to one of the Feng Shui shops to hear about fengshui.
Then at night, it's shopping at 西门町!
Day 7
Free and easy day. We slept till 8:30am. Finally, a day when we can sleep a little later. After breakfast at Macdonalds', we took a train to taipei underground shopping mall. We were a little too early, so most of the shops were not opened yet. We went up to the open area and walked around. Some of the shops there were opened, so we went walking around that area. After that, it was lunch at 鼎泰丰. The food there is indeed nicer then the same restaurant found locally. After that, it's WuFenPu. It's an area having lots of wholesale shops selling clothes. This area is big. Think we spent around 5 hours covering that place. At night, it's shopping and food at 西门町 and Shilin. It's really amazing how we can cover so many places in just one day. We went back to the hotel at around 11pm. Washed up, packed up and slept for 2 hours before waking up the next day at 3:30am :S
Day 8
Went up the bus and headed for the airport. The flight back to Singapore will depart at 9.30am. Hence we needed to be early. Everyone had many luggages to check in. Boxes of them. When the time is up, we said goodbye to Taiwan and headed back to Singapore.
