No Sound, No Joy

There is this thing that I don't really like about on board sound chips. I had this problem twice already. Both motherboards had on board sound. Both times, it didn't work. The first time a friend managed to help me solve the issue. But when I tried to apply the same method the second time, it didn't work. So irritating...why are on board sounds so troublesome for me...argh...:(
